O investigador do Museu de Hist\u00f3ria Natural da UEM, Doutor Carlos Bento, defendeu que a integridade gen\u00e9tica de algumas esp\u00e9cies de animais, como \u00e9 o caso de b\u00fafalo africano, pode estar em risco, devido aos problemas de transmuta\u00e7\u00e3o em alguns locais como Parque Nacional de Gorongosa.
Explicou que, com a retirada de uma parte da popula\u00e7\u00e3o animal nesta \u00e1rea de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o, alguns indiv\u00edduos (animais) provenientes de diferentes locais vieram se instalar no Parque, o que pode vir a originar a perda das caracter\u00edsticas dos animais origin\u00e1rios daquela zona.
O investigador exp\u00f4s o seu trabalho em curso de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o, intitulado \u201cPopulation genetic and historical demography of the characteristics of the African buffalo in Mozambique: conservation and management implications\u201d, durante o semin\u00e1rio de apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o dos resultados dos projectos das bolsas financiadas pelo programa BioForMoz.
Referiu que, com o estudo em curso, espera obter informa\u00e7\u00f5es detalhadas sobre as adversidades gen\u00e9ticas das popula\u00e7\u00f5es de animais e sua conectividade para melhores recomenda\u00e7\u00f5es e prevenir futuros problemas em termos de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o das esp\u00e9cies, atrav\u00e9s de estrat\u00e9gias adequadas para o contexto.
\u201cEstes estudos gen\u00e9ticos normalmente usam tecido ou sangue, por isso vamos tentar aproveitar alguns restos de tecido nas fezes dos animais, para testar se \u00e9 poss\u00edvel e, consequentemente, podermos isolar, se for necess\u00e1rio\u201d, explicou.
